What to wear: Styling TIps for your Session
So you’re about to get your photos taken...
And you’re thinking, “what on earth do I wear?” Don't worry, we've all been there!
This guide will give you 5 simple “dos and don’ts” to take the stress out of planning your outfits. I’ve also included some sample color palettes with seasonal inspiration, but feel free to make any of these your own, year-round!
do...
wear neutrals, earth tones, and muted colors. These are timeless, versatile, and easy to mix and match. Feel free to include subtle pops of color that you love wearing and having displayed in your home. Keep the color palette small—2-3 colors with varying shades works well!

Don't...
wear overly bright/stark colors (i.e. burnt orange or peach instead of orange, rust or maroon instead of red, khaki or mustard instead of yellow, etc.) or any colors you don't love on yourselves.
1.
do...
wear solid colors and textured materials. Feel free to layer and accessorize to add dimension to your outfit. Simple patterns can look good in moderation.

Don't...
wear busy patterns, wording/graphics, or obvious brand names. These add visual clutter, and some can even confuse the camera sensor, resulting in image quality issues.
2.
do...
wear colors and silhouettes that make you feel comfortable and confident. Opt for outfits you can move freely in! Dress appropriately for the weather so you’ll be comfortable and happy during your session.

Don't...
wear restricting or uncomfortable outfits, or anything that you know may make you self-conscious in front of the camera. Avoid clothing that needs to be frequently adjusted to look “right” so that you don’t have to stress about it during your session.
3.
do...
complement each other’s outfits. Wear colors that pair well together, and coordinate on how dressy or casual you want to be. If you’re leaning casual, aim to dress up just a little bit more than you would in everyday life.

Don't...
wear all matching colors (e.g. all black, white tees and same-wash blue jeans, etc.) You want to “harmonize” with each other, rather than blending in or checkering with one another.
4.
do...
shop your closet first! Lean into items you already love and wear often before buying something new. You’ll be more comfortable, photos will feel more authentic, and you’ll save time and stress!

Don't...
impulse buy outfits you don’t care for, or trends that don’t fit your style. Photos can be a great opportunity to add pieces you love to your wardrobe, just don’t forget to be yourselves!
